#1. Why there is advertising at all
VEVARTE makes its money selling furniture. The journal costs money to write and nothing to read, and advertising is how a small part of that is offset. It is a supplement, not the business model, and that matters: a site that lives on advertising eventually writes for the advertiser, and we would rather not arrive there.
Advertising is not currently running on this site. This policy is published in advance so that it is in place before the first ad loads, rather than appearing afterwards.
#2. Who serves the advertising
Our advertising partner is Google AdSense, operated by Google LLC. Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies and similar identifiers to serve ads on this site.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet.
- Google may use the DoubleClick DART cookie and equivalent identifiers to select and measure advertising.
- Third-party vendors and ad networks may also serve advertising here, each under its own privacy policy, and may use cookies, web beacons and device identifiers of their own.
- We do not control which specific advertisers appear. Placement is automated and an ad appearing here is not an endorsement by us.
Google explains its own practices at policies.google.com/technologies/ads and policies.google.com/privacy. Where a further network is added, it will be named in this section before it serves its first impression, and the Cookie Policy cookie table will list its cookies.
Our authorised sellers are declared at /ads.txt, which is the mechanism that stops anyone claiming to sell inventory on vevarte.com who has no right to.
#3. What advertising partners collect
Only after you have consented to the advertising category, and only then:
- Cookie and device identifiers, IP address, browser and operating system.
- The pages you viewed here and, where you consented on those sites too, on other sites in the same network.
- Which ads were shown, whether they were viewable, and whether they were clicked.
- Approximate location, derived from the IP address at city level. Not precise location; we do not request it and the browser would ask you first if anyone did.
They collect this as independent controllers, not on our behalf, and hold it under their own policies. We receive only aggregate reporting — impressions, clicks, revenue — and never a report about an identifiable person.
#4. Consent, and the EEA and UK position
Before any advertising script runs, Google Consent Mode is initialised with `ad_storage`, `ad_user_data` and `ad_personalization` set to denied. Nothing loads with an identifier until you say so, and that default applies worldwide rather than only where a regulator is watching.
For visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, Google's EU user consent policy additionally requires us to obtain consent for cookies and for personalised advertising, to disclose the vendors involved, to retain records of consent, and — for traffic served with Google ad products — to use a Google-certified consent management platform participating in the IAB Transparency & Consent Framework.
Since advertising is not yet active, we state our commitment rather than a claim: a certified CMP will be in place before advertising is enabled for EEA or UK traffic. Our own consent panel already implements the substance — everything denied by default, refusal as prominent as acceptance, withdrawal in one click, and a stored record of what was asked and answered.
Withdrawing consent stops personalisation. It does not stop advertising: without consent, ads are non-personalised, selected from the content of the page you are reading and your approximate location, with a frequency-capping identifier that is not used to build a profile.
#5. Turning off personalised advertising everywhere
These are worth more than any single site's banner because they apply across the whole network:
- Google — My Ad Center switches off ad personalisation across Google services and partner sites.
- Google, opting out of the DART cookie specifically — Google ads settings.
- Digital Advertising Alliance — optout.aboutads.info.
- Network Advertising Initiative — optout.networkadvertising.org.
- Europe — youronlinechoices.eu.
- On this site alone — the Manage cookies link in the footer of every page.
Ad blockers are entirely your business. We do not detect them, do not nag about them, and do not withhold anything from anyone using one.
#6. How ads are placed, and what we will not do
Placement rules we hold ourselves to, most of which are also AdSense programme policy and Better Ads Standards:
- Every ad unit is labelled "Advertisement" and is visually separated from editorial content. An advertisement that could be mistaken for our own recommendation is a failure of the page, not a clever placement.
- No ads on the checkout, cart or wishlist pages, and none inside the ordering flow.
- No pop-ups over content, no auto-playing sound, no countdown interstitials, no ads that move the page as it loads.
- No more ads than content on any page. A page that exists to hold ad units does not get published.
- Ad units are kept out of the keyboard reading order and are not placed where a navigation control would be — accidental clicks help nobody and are a policy violation besides.
- We do not click our own ads, ask anyone to click them, or place them where a mis-tap is likely.
- No advertising on pages about a bereavement, an accident or anything similarly sensitive, in the unlikely event we publish one.
The content of this site is our own and is intended to comply with Google's publisher content policies. If you see an ad here that is deceptive, offensive, or promotes something prohibited, tell us at legal@vevarte.com with a screenshot and the time — we will block that advertiser and report it.
#7. Sponsored content, gifts and affiliate links
Editorial independence is easy to claim and easy to check, so here is the checkable version.
| Arrangement | Do we do it? | How it is disclosed |
|---|---|---|
| Paid articles or paid placement in the journal | Not to date | Labelled "Sponsored" at the top of the article, before the first paragraph, and in the meta description |
| Affiliate links earning us a commission | No — none at present | Marked at the point of the link and in a note at the head of the article |
| Products or materials given to us free for review | Occasionally, by suppliers | Stated in the article. A free sample buys a mention, never a verdict |
| Reciprocal links or link exchanges for SEO | No | Outbound links are marked nofollow or sponsored wherever anything of value passed |
| Paid reviews, or incentives for a rating | Never | See the Reviews & User Content Policy |
Nothing paid for is disguised as editorial. If we ever accept a sponsored piece it will say so before you read it, not in a footnote after it — and the same person who writes the journal will still decide whether it is any good.
#8. Our own advertising, elsewhere
We advertise on Meta platforms and in Google search. If you see an ad for us, that is why. We use Meta and Google advertising tools within their terms and we do not upload customer lists as custom audiences — no hashed phone numbers, no email lists.
Where a measurement pixel is added to this site so that we can see whether our own advertising works, it will be listed in the Cookie Policy cookie table, placed in the advertising category, and denied by default like everything else there.
